Śrī nārāyaṇīyam is a Sanskrit poetic text comprising 1,036 verses, written by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri in 1586 AD at the age of 27. The work serves as a condensed summary of the expansive 18,000 verses of the Bhagavata Puranam. Notably, the entire poem is crafted in the first person singular, presenting a direct conversation with the Lord. The revered śrī nārāyaṇīyam, dedicated to Sri Guruvayurappan (Sri Krishna), was completed and offered on śrī nārāyaṇīya diṉam, celebrated on the 28th day of the vṛścika (வ்ருʼஶ்சிக) month in the traditional Kerala calendar. This day carries profound significance at the Guruvayur Temple in Kerala.
